INCATUK will deliver a farming project in Samba Cajú (Angola)
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Angola has awarded INCATUK the comprehensive development project for Samba Cajú, belonging to the Planalto de Camabatela region, in the context of livestock farming for meat production. The works, requiring an investment of more than 73.1 million USD, are scheduled to start in September 2019 and will take 3 years.
INCATUK will be in charge of the design and execution of the works, along with logistics management of same. It will act as the official supervisor, controlling the entire project, the scale of which will propitiate the creation of more than 730 direct and indirect jobs for its execution.
The project’s development implies, in the first instance, preparation of a census of the entrepreneurs associated with the region’s Cooperative, and a Needs Identification Plan for the livestock farming sector, in addition to a structural map of Planalto de Camabatela, to include the execution of a study and technical reports for land restructuring and reuse.
According to Sergio de Román, director of Farming, Fisheries and Rural Development of INCATUK and chief person in charge of this project, execution of all actions in a global and integrated manner “will contribute to economic growth in Angola through the construction of installations and infrastructures that will improve the country’s cattle meat production, with a focus on food safety and sustainable development”.
The project financing has been coordinated and structured by the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), based in Angola since 2010 with the support of the international with support of the UK Credit Agency United Kingdom Export Finance (UKEF).
New administrative installations and livestock sanitary control facilities
In terms of the installations, the office building of the Development Bureau of Planalto de Camabatela and of the region’s Farming Cooperative Directorate will be improved, and the offices of the Planalto Veterinary Services will be built, with a total area of approximately 570 m2 for administrative and veterinary use, fully fitted out for both purposes.
In addition, five sanitary control posts will be built in the region, to oversee animals from other zones through vehicle control facilities with a barrier and sanitary enclosure, diagnostic lab, stabling for isolation and quarantining of animals, feed storage buildings, vehicle cleaning and disinfection stations, installations for the handling and de-worming of animals, and incineration equipment. The project also contemplates a cattle confinement unit consisting of five buildings of 1,350 m2 each, to house the animals before sending them to the slaughterhouse, with a total capacity of 1,000 animals. All of this will be completed with a community centre to boost the livestock trade, which will include an administrative building and installations for carrying out parasite removal treatments and an enclosure for holding cattle fairs with seating for the public.
In terms of the infrastructure, actions will be undertaken to expand and improve it, by building new power lines, rehabilitating rural roads, creating water storage basins and installing fencing for cattle enclosures.
At the same time, livestock farming operations will be improved in the region with the construction of new stabling for cattle, feed storage facilities, handling and parasite removal installations, supply points for salt, water and fuel tanks, pivot irrigation systems, and the supply of farming equipment and cattle transport vehicles. In addition, cattle numbers will be repopulated with the supply of 2,340 new cattle heads to the region.
